Exterior Plantation Shutters

An Exterior Plantation Shutter are also known as storm shutters used to protect windows and doors against a strong hurricane. That includes protection from very strong winds, rainstorms and flying objects. It prevents the interior of the window such as glass from breaking. Floridians are very familiar with these kinds of shutters.

The French however has made an art form out of Plantation shutters, as these are part of the architecture of old French buildings and homes.

Exterior Plantation Shutters are made from fiberglass, aluminum, iron, PVC and full-ranged resistant plastics. Exterior Shutters can be mounted on tracks that can easily swing open or swing shut. Motorized controls can also be installed.

What are Plantation Shutters?

Plantation Shutters are solid window coverings made up of frame vertical stiles and horizontal rails. Technically they look like wooden venetian blinds or wooden jalousies built inside a frame.

The framework of Plantation shutters can be of operable or fixed solid panels in fabric or glass. Shutters are mounted for the following reasons:
  • To control amount of sunlight that enters the window
  • To provide privacy away from prying eyes.
  • To protect against weather
  • To enhance the aesthetics of a building.
  • To further secure openings from intruders.
Plantation Shutters are custom-fitted to mount an opening, this includes interior shutters used on the inside of a house, and exterior shutters, mounted outside of the house.
